Kymera Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering targeted protein degradation (TPD) - a drug modality that hijacks the body's own protein-disposal machinery to destroy disease-causing proteins rather than merely blocking them. Kymera deploys TPD to address disease targets and pathways inaccessible with conventional therapeutics like antibodies or small-molecule inhibitors, giving it access to "undruggable" targets. Kymera focuses primarily on immunological and inflammatory diseases, using its oral small-molecule degraders to target conditions including Atopic dermatitis, Asthma and Lupus. My first experience with Kymera was in August 2025 when I shadowed leadership and toured the lab to gain exposure to key phases of drug development including target discovery and preclinical research. I was fortunate to return the following summer for an internship.

What I Did
Conducted hands-on laboratory experiments detecting IRAK4 protein proportions across 5 mixed PBMC samples using Western Blotting and Flow Cytometry
Separated and isolated target proteins from mixed PBMCs, applying precision pipetting, sample separation, and BCA protein quantification assays
Analyzed Western Blot and Flow Cytometry datasets to draw quantitative findings on IRAK4 expression
Presented experimental processes and findings to 5 key research scientists, demonstrating clear scientific communication skills
