I've always been fascinated with creating and learning about the world around me. Whether I was building with Magna-Tiles, assembling NASA LEGO spacecraft, or disappearing into a good book, I was always exploring my next project. At 8 years old, I turned my childhood basement bathroom into a makeshift lab, white coat and goggles included. That curiosity never went away.
Throughout high school, I’ve chased it beyond the classroom: independent research, hands-on work in real labs, and summer programs spanning neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and astrophysics. I’ve also sat down with CEOs and scientists at biotech companies to get an honest look at how discovery actually happens — messy, slow, and nothing like it looks in textbooks.
That’s exactly what draws me in. I’m fascinated by the questions biology and biotechnology haven’t answered yet, and even more by the collaborative side of drug discovery. I know that breakthroughs come from teams of people with completely different expertise, all working toward the same goal. I keep putting myself into situations where I feel in over my head, and that's the place I learn and grow the most.
Outside the lab, I mentor younger girls in STEM, which is one of the most rewarding things I’ve done. I also paint with acrylics in my art studio and have an obsession with Greek mythology, which isn’t as far from science as it seems. Both are just different ways of asking how the world works the way it does.
In college I want to keep chasing the questions biology hasn't answered yet, in rooms full of people who know things I don't. That's the pattern since the basement lab, I just have better equipment now.
